When I was living up in Salt Lake, I spent a good portion of my time downtown, delivering packaging goods to various companies who needed them.
Spending so much time in the area, I got to know a few good places to eat that had decent parking for a big truck, and I thought I knew all the great eateries around there. Except for Mexican food joints. Utah does not know Mexican at all. Every place that sells it has such watered down, tasteless salsa, mundane flavors, and generally weak food that I despaired ever finding a good place to eat. Seriously, half the reason I moved back to AZ was just so I could get decent Mexican again.
Then last night, I was watching an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Guy Fieri was showcasing what looked to be the only good Mexican food joint in Utah, I swear. The segment was on a restaurant called the Red Iguana. The food looked out-of-this-world awesome. My mouth watered. I wanted some in the worst way.
This awesome-looking restaurant is in Salt Lake! Freaking Salt Lake! I used to drive past it every day! I never noticed it, not once. And do you know what the insult-to-injury part is? I used to eat at a crappy Mexican food joint called Beto's that sits not a hundred yards away! One block down and on the other side of the street was a place that created heaven, while I sat eating crap food made by bored illegals who didn't care!
AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
So here's the mission. All you Salt Lake people are to drive down to 736 W North Temple and try it out, for me. Go! Go now! You people know you need some good Mexican food.
Here's their website.

Go get some. You know you wanna.

I am SOOOOOOOOO going there
Yea, when I was up at Sarah and Craig's their Mexican food restaurant was at a gas station. I didn't eat there, I wasn't feeling well that day, but that was where everyone said to go and that was the hot spot. Who would've known.
It's like $12 for an entree there! Who do they think they are! I mean, the food looks really good...but isn't Mexican food supposed to be cheaper? It is, after all, Mexican!
No! Good mexican food is pricy. Taco Bell is NOT Mexican food Amy.
No it isn't. I mean it. Stop arguing with me. I know you like it, but it doesn't count. Alright, that's it, I'm covering my ears. Lalalalalalalala.
Even eating a Filiberto's these days will run you near ten bucks, at least, per person. A couple bucks more for really good food would be worth it.
Making mexican food yourself can also be pricy.
Tortillas-$3
Black beans-$4
Cheese-$4
Sour cream-$2
Heavy Cream-$2.50
Ingredients for 1 quart homemade butt-kickin' salsa-$5
Meat-$3 per pound or so
Peppers- $1 green, -$3 red, yellow, or orange per pepper
Onion $1
Spices-$1
Tomatoes- $1.50 per pound
Olives- $1
One hour of cooking time.
etc.
It adds up quick. For two people, it's almost cheaper just to go out and pay to get it made for you as long as the cook is any good.
I hear Gecko Grill calling me now, or Rosa's or Cravings..... MMMMMMMMMMMMM.
I love Rosa'a. Their tomatillo salsa is great, if a little tame.
